Your party is sailing or traveling in a submersible (like the Apparatus of Kwalish) and interesting things besides combat happen!
A storm blows in and something strange is washed aboard the ship. You decide! (1d4):

A dead deep sea fish.
Your submersible travels through a dense forest of Kelp and the propeller gets tangled and the party has to figure out how to dislodge without getting the bends/while under the immense atmospheric pressure under the sea.
The sounds of unearthly singing reach your ears from across the water. You find the remains of ships and sirens (mermaid like tricksters), but the sirens appear to have left.
A whirlpool full of teeth opens up just ahead of your ship and you have to sail to avoid it (think Scylla and Charybdis).
The seagulls are joined by other types of birds in the sky - perhaps something has gone awry on the land (perhaps a major forest fire).
Bio-luminescent jelly fish bloom at night, lighting up the water around you, creating a romantic and breathtaking atmosphere.
You find a dingy afloat all alone on the sea with a child/NPC with a story hook aboard.
The stowaway is revealed after someone finally took inventory of the stowed supplies below deck when the chocolate was disappearing in larger quantities than expected.
Seasoned sailors get seasick as you realize maybe something is wrong with the food.
You see a gargantuan entity on the horizon and the sailors start to tell tales. You decide! (1d4)

Once the food runs out, and the PCs begin to starve (failed CON roll with increaseing daily DC starting at 10) they may well begin to go insane.
Cannibalism will resolve any hunger issues.
You find a message in a bottle floating near the ship. It's from a father to his children, writing to tell them how much he misses them while he's on the high seas. Optional bonus quest to find the children and deliver the letter.
One of the crew members caught a magical talking fish. The fish claims that if you set him free, he'll grant you a wish.
A dolphin has been following the ship for three days. A. If treated kindly, the dolphin shows the way to a hidden lagoon with treasure. B. Treated badly, the dolphin and its friends make a large hole in the bottom of the ship.
Things are going missing from the deck of the ship. If investigated, it's a bird. The bird has built a nest and is clearly trying to impress a potential mate with its newfound collection.
A strange formation of rocks appears a ways off the shoreline of an island. Closer inspection reveals that these are not rocks, but bones from an ancient dragon. Perhaps the hoard is somewhere nearby?
A sea witch happens upon the ship. She gives the party the "gift of communication" and casts a friendly spell before going on her way. The enchantment is aimed at the ship. For the next 14 days, the ship is sentient and can communicate with the crew. And boy oh boy, does this ship have some opinions!
A wave washes a large shell onto the deck of the ship. It's a instrument, and the first person to pick it up gains proficiency in playing the shell. The shell can lull any baby in a 10 foot radius into a peaceful slumber.

It has cannons, wood, food, ale, plants, silks, spices, sugar, a note atop showing a delivery island that is where you came from, the island you're going to, an island near it, an island you've never heard of, an island that Nobody has ever heard of.
A giant squid comes near the surface near the boat to warm up in the sun. Curious about your presence, it follows your ship for several hours before disappearing back into the depths.
A dragon swoops by, catching a ton of fish in its mouth, then flying away

Baba yaga, but it's an outpost on a rock
Giant hippocampus swims next to the boat and tries to get the party to throw it treats.
You fall off the ship! Before you can cry out the ship is already sailing on its way and you are lost overboard. Just as you begin to despair, a friendly merfolk swims up and asks if you need help. If you explain what happened, they kindly offer to return you to the ship.
As you keep watch, you look over the side. Roll a percentage dice. (1-10, 90-100 its real) you see a small creature tearing out boards to the side of the ship! Then as you look they vanish, and you hear a commotion from the other side of the boat.

The ship gets lost in a magnetic field anomaly which causes their compass to spin wildly. A DC 17 survival check will get them out but off course. A 20 or higher will get them out while maintaining the proper course
A merchant vessel: a vessel that is a small market place, stocking rope, lantern oil, medical supplies, preserved foods, and other ship-borne essentials, maybe weapon maintenance, potions of healing and water breathing, that kind of thing. put some guards on it: a blackguard, a champion, and a warlord.
You encounter a Kelp Forest, a portion of the sea where the Kelp stalks stretch high above the waves, at least 40 to 50 feet. Who knows what kind of beasts might linger in the fog, nesting amongst the broad leaves and seed pods.
A pod of whales swims along side the submersible, a sudden wave lunges the sub to one side as a Roc dives into the water and grabs a whale. The roc's flapping and thw whales panic make for extremly difficult seas and the crew of the sub will needs to sucseed in a skill challenge to prevent catostophic failure of the machine.
An Iceberg that has been carved to be an Ice lich fortress on its underside sawrms with undead such as Merpires and Great Wight Sharks. The Party will have to find ways to make their vessal steathy or face a dire situation. (If in warmer climes, the Iceberg can be replaced with a floating coral fortress and the Ice Lich with a Merpire (Merfolk Vampire) Lord.)
The Party see a lake of dark liquid on the bottom of th sea bed. The substance is "Brine" super salty water that is low in oxygen, only the most hard bacteria can survive in it. it is used by many subnautical peoples as a holy sight to entomb their dead. . . Often with gold and pearls. When the Party are down in the lake, somethng knocks on the hatch.

You meet another ship, a merchant ship. However, you are informed that this particular ship used to be quite known for his crew and their deals … Until they sank 2 years ago
The ship is run aground on a sandbank (more plausible in archipelagos/shallow waters), so the players must find a way to dig the ship out or use enough force to push off from the bank (but not too much force to break the ship!)
You pass ovearound an island recently submerged underwater by rising sea levels (natural or otherwise). The tops of trees and buildings peak over the lapping waves, and if you glance down and squint you can make out the signs of a civilisation eradicated; fish swimming about abandoned hovels, overturned carts floating by, and even the occasional ghost wandering down dead roads.
Far in the distance, you can make out a naval battle raging. The distant thunder of cannons and a faint smell of brimstone linger in the air. Eventually one ship keels over, sinking beneath the waves.

A long riverboat is seen at the mouth of a river pouring into the sea. A closer investigation reveals it is a casino boat!
A ship rolls up on you, but it's someone going where you are and they challenge you to a race to get there. No magic can be used, some magic, all bets are off. They wager gold, a piece of information, a magic item. They are true to their word, they sail away, they attempt to destroy the ship, they vanish as you approach the island (they're ghosts) and you find the reward in the captains quarters.

A giant Octopus is tending their coral garden. They offer gold in exchange for seaweeds from far off places to put in their garden.
Has anyone featured an encounter with black smokers yet? Vents from the planets mantel spewing out pressurized boiling gas, causing pillars of what looks like black smoke underwater and a huge diversity of life that is strange and alien. You could combine that with a giant Bobbit worm made of smoke poking out of a portal to the elemental plane of fire. this is a vague idea.
Maybe come across some merfolk torturing a sapient giant electric eel, they are doing so to capture electricity that powers a magic artifact that keeps a merfolk child alive. free the eel and the child dies. leave it and a living thinking creature is tortured slowly to death.
While you observe the sea you notice a big shadow appear under the boat. A BIG shadow. A massive sea creature appears.
While sailing, suddenly it gets more and more foggy till you can barely see anything anymore. Suddenly you see a hazy ship coming out of the water and getting closer to you. The crew doesn't look normal (Black Pearl inspired)
You travel a long time on a boat with only a few passenger, you eat regularly together in the small tavern style restaurant on the boat and basically know all passengers by face. One day one of them disappears. Next day another one, and another one. The rest passengers get suspicious. The persons are nowhere to be found. The PCs try to investigate. In the end turns out a vampire is on the boat coming out when its cloudy or raining. (Dracula Series on Netflix, Second Episode)

Ode to “I Know”: I have a lot to say about Abandoned Mansion. I think it’s one of the most interesting and tragic stories of an album release with a satisfying ending (like Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Kesha’s Rainbow). It was recorded in 2014, fresh off the heels of B-Room but ANTI- didn’t want to release it, favoring The Psychedelic Swamp. Then came 2016, which was the universe’s dry-run for 2020. It was heartache after heartache: David Bowie, Merle Haggard, Prince, Leonard Cohen, capped with the biggest “fuck-you” to science, culture and decency: a reality TV bozo becoming the American president. Dr. Dog had decided to part ways with ANTI- but still had Abandoned Mansion. Just a few weeks after the election they dropped it on Bandcamp with little fanfare for free streaming or $10 to purchase, all proceeds going to the Southern Poverty Law Center. There was no tour behind it, no merch or marketing campaign. It felt like the potential last move of a band with no label and no plan, I sincerely wondered if they’d decided to call it quits. There is, however, a really great press release that I’ll quote:
Its a mood record. What I call Easy Peasy listening. Nothing too jarring or atonal. No blips or bloops or anything else that might unsettle you. There’s plenty of upright bass for any of you tall people. And, also plenty of acoustic guitar for those of you trying to live off the grid. Oh, and the harmonies put God’s own angels to shame. Also lightweights. We did a song a day for two weeks. And, almost everything was tracked live, except for some pretty egregious organ clams that we had to punch in over. We all know they came roaring back with Critical Equation and if you were fortunate enough to catch their most recent Wwwinterlude tour you know they’re on the absolute top of their form. Abandoned Mansion is a melancholy album with a glimmer of hope. The universe knew we didn’t need it in 2014 and saved it for us when it could do some good for us and the world. Anyway, on to “I Know”: I imagine Dr. Dog will tour until they’re old men. My mind’s eye visualizes Scott sitting on a velvet stool in a smoky casino lounge, crooning this song at 3am between sips out of a sweaty tumbler. The room could be empty or filled to capacity, I imagine he’d sing it as truthfully and earnestly the same. I think y’all voted this song out because it makes you sad. It makes you sad for Scott and it makes you sad to have to reflect on yourselves. Lord knows I hate to be alone with my own thoughts. I definitely hate to objectively think about the sum of my life. I make a lot of assumptions about you, fellow Dr. Dog fans. We’re not the same but we’re all in this together. The harmonica is a divisive instrument. It’s a harsh sound but it matches this song’s no-punches-held message. Like the rest of the album it’s a super slim arrangement: simple drumming, piano, and upright bass. The backing “oohs” that come in at 2:30 send tingles down the spine after Scott’s crooning has already primed the pump. Lyrically this song is a gut punch. There’s some beautiful metaphors but a total lack of whimsy, not allowing the listener space to escape the reality we’re being asked to face. ------------------------ Eliminated so far:

Liquore di Mirto (licòre/-i de murta in sardo, licòr di mortula in corso), detto semplicemente mirto o mirto rosso, è un liquore popolare, in Sardegna e in Corsica, ottenuto per macerazione alcolica delle bacche di mirto o di un misto di bacche e foglie. Nell'accezione comune del termine, il liquore di mirto è ottenuto dalla macerazione di bacche pigmentate mature.

Archeologia Civiltà Nuragica Di nuraghi ce ne sono circa 7000 sparsi qua e la per l'isola. Spesso si tratta di singole torri ma qualche volta troviamo strutture organizzate in villaggi e santuari. Tra i villaggi Su Nuraxi è forse il più conosciuto. Interessante è anche il nuraghe di Santu Antine. Su Romanzesu rappresenta invece un classico esempio di santuario con annesso pozzo sacro. Di fatto si tratta di necropoli ipogee atte a ospitare le spoglie di una comunità. Particolarmente interessante é quella di Sant'Andrea Priu. Presenta infatti tre camere e numerose celle: La prima camera presenta ancora tracce della pintura delle pareti risalenti al neolitico (~5000 anni fa) La seconda è stata riutilizzata come tomba romana ed ancora sono visibili gli affreschi rappresentanti decorazioni varie e la matrona La terza è stata convertita a chiesa Bizantina. Ancora una volta sono conservati gli affreschi e le decorazioni. Al di fuori, sulla sommità, è scolpito nella roccia un toro. La cui testa è stata rimossa probabilmente ad opera dei cristiani. Why are songs with uncleared samples allowed on YouTube but not Spotify?
I know songs can get removed on YouTube due to copyright but songs or albums with millions of hits containing uncleared samples are seemingly allowed to stay on YouTube (i.e. Floral Shoppe, ExMilitary, most of Clams Casino's music along with A$AP Rocky's first mixtape). You also have plenty of underground but celebrated house, techno and other kinds of electronic with uncleared samples that also get vinyl pressings. Do the original artists/labels not care if they like the music and the sampler isn't making money off it? Or do these famous tracks get copyright struck and people just aggressively reupload until the label gets tired of flagging and gives up? I assume not being on spotify is to do with monetisation but there's plenty of music with uncleared samples on YT that I'm pretty sure has ads. I'm very thankful that YouTube seems so flexible with copyright, if anything it's helped birth and propagate many great songs and fresh genres of the 2010s that were built off of uncleared sampling and a DIY approach. Copyright is undoubtedly important but the rules seem so ever-changing and contradictory, regular videos containing copyrighted stuff is a whole other thing too. It's like copyright laws can't keep up with the internet.

After touring in early 2014, Vince releases the music video for Blue Suede on August 15th. This video matches the song well. A gritty mixture of black, white, and blue feels post-apocalyptic with the beat ringing like a bomb siren. The nuclear bombs hit you repeatedly in the form of banging bass. Shortly after this, on September 9th, Vince releases Hands Up on iTunes. Hands Up has an unforgettable hook with some meaningful bars from Vince. Some of Vince's best flows on this track. These tracks were being released as singles for the incoming EP, Hell Can Wait, which was released on October 7th of 2014. Hell Can Wait was released with great reception. Vince raps some of his best hooks throughout his career on the project, particularly on Hands Up and 65 Hunnid. The entire 7-track EP is dirty in the best way. Limos with Teyana Taylor is a nice cleansing shower from the grit, it's a good song yet one of the weakest on the project. That's not saying much. The three best songs from Hell Can Wait (imo): * Hands Up * Blue Suede * Screen Door Coming off the release of Hell Can Wait, Vince performs with Common at the BET Hip Hop Awards. The next day, he releases the video for Fire. He truly takes us to church on this one, no hoe shit and no Hozier shit. After these events, Vince was pretty quiet. He performed a few times towards the final months of 2014, once with Joey Badass on his North American Tour. Vince was featured in the song Hell Yeah by Rag'n'Bone Man in December. The video for this song is really well done. Vince was relatively quiet for the rest of 2014. Vince Staples releases the Screen Door video on February 6th to kick off an epic 2015. This was the most noise he made in awhile. One of the best songs on Hell Can Wait is visualized perfectly, the stunted shots and quick cuts really capture the paranoia of slangin' crack. The video for Fire appears to be playing on the TV at 32 seconds. February 26th: tour with Earl Sweatshirt gets announced. Earl and Vince go way back as the original guide states, with them collaborating on many tracks. Speaking of, Vince has a nice collab with Earl on Wool which got released in the spring. Stuff starts to snap-crackle-pop for Vince. On April 1st, the video is released for his feature on CHAPO with A$ton Matthews. About a month later, Vince releases the first single for his debut album Summertime '06 - Senorita which features Future, his part is a sample of his song Covered N Money. The next day, he announces that Summertime '06 will be released on June 30th. The album announcement was exciting and made sense at the time. Vince had a mixtape/year pace at this point, and with each being better than the last, the build-up to an album was clearly the next episode. Perhaps a season premiere or a season finale.
PART 6: "A Modern Classic?"
Get Paid is the next single released on June 14th, featuring Desi Mo The Dogg (at time of writing this she has 594 followers on Twitter). The next day, Vince and Tyler, The Creator appear on Real Late W/ Pete Rosenberg and drop some great freestyle bars. Vince continues to build hype before release by making the 2015 XXL freshman cover and murdering the freestyle, then the madman spits an absolutely disgustingly hard verse on the cypher. The debut album got an early stream release thru NPR music. Norf Norf gets released. Vince is buzzing more than ever, and at this point it is clear that Vince will become a staple in the modern rap game. June 30th finally arrives and Staples fans have been eating ever since. The album receives very good press and reviews. It makes the Year-end best album lists of Pitchfork, Stereogum, The Guardian, The A.V. Club, and more. Metacritic shows Summertime '06 at an 87/100. The three best songs from Summertime '06 (imo.. it's hard to pick only three from this album): * Lift Me Up * Norf Norf * CNB Every song is great. If you haven't listened to this album you have to. While it is two discs, it is cohesive, yet each disc gives off a different vibe. To me, it feels like on the first disc, Vince and I were meandering through Long Beach committing various crimes. On the second disc, we have to run from the opposition and face reality. I would put Summertime '06 above TPAB, and some consider TPAB to be a modern classic, hence the header of this section.
PART 7: “Pre-Madonna”
A bit after releasing Summertime '06, Vince spits one of his best radio freestyles. I would like to note here that I've never seen Vince recycle a freestyle verse. Also, Norf Norf kind of blows up for Vince. He drops the vid in mid June and off of the already sizzling fanbase and mystique of Clams Casino who produced the track, it rockets into the mainstream waves. Later in November 2015, Vince joins the line-up for Tyler's 4th annual CAMP FLOG GNAW. This seems to be confirmation that the semblance of beef they once had is now George Foreman-grilled into nonexistence. The video for Lift Me Up is released at the end of January 2016. It's an interesting video for what I believe to be the best song on the album. Lift Me Up has some of the greatest bars ever that you will rap to while they simultaneously degrade you:

Vince gets confirmed for SXSW 2016. In March, Vince leaves a hilarious Yelp review. Around this time, long-time Vince collaborator Joey Fatts releases Farrakhan. It is a banger. Fast-forward to July 25th, the internet is getting hyped about a new song with Vince, Andre 3000, and James Blake. Vince announces on August 15th that his new EP Primma Donna would be out next week. This would be new music and a short film. Primma Donna, like pretty much every Vince project, did well in the realm of critics. This EP has an awesome sequel to Loca, called Loco which features the same art-pop/new-wave singer Kilo Kish. Kilo is a longtime Vince collaborator and features on some of his best songs. Primma Donna is another gold medal for the Michael Phelps of rap. Vince is at his best stride yet and he only appears to be backstroking. The three best tracks off of Primma Donna (imo): * Loco * Big Time * Pimp Hand (quick note: Timeless is awesome)
Part 8: “Megalodonna”
Vince Staples performsSmile with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon. Around October of 2016, the Norf Norf lady rant goes viral. Here is the vid. Vince was pretty quiet until deep into November when he announced The Life Aquatic Tour with Kilo Kish. This tour was awesome, Kilo Kish was like watching a play on a stage, Vince's sound and visuals were great and the crowd bumped. BagBak was Vince's first release of 2017. Vince also gets featured on Ascension by the Gorillaz. This point in Vince's career is the highest, just out of virtue that Vince's career has been a steady rocket upwards. He releases a couple singles (Big Fish and Rain Come Down) for his upcoming album Big Fish Theory. This album is as great as any of his other projects but with the added experimental twist. The production is more experimental than ever and many publications call it "avant-garde" - the NME review, which is a 5/5, calls it "dystopian g-funk" which is pretty cool. After the release of Summertime '06 and then a great EP with Primma Donna, Vince did it again with a fresh and experimental album. He certified himself as a big fish, a Megalodon in the industry. This album made so many year-end lists (at least 20 of them). This tour was also awesome and Vince can put on a truly great performance. He is on the songs Opps and BagBak was used for trailers for the film. This movie and soundtrack became extremely popular. Vince fans now eagerly await new releases. An interview with Nicolas Pellion aka Pure Baking Soda, most likely to be the best french-speaking rap storyteller and part of this story that went everywhere on the web: the quite spontaneous boom of young harlemite A$AP Rocky, his machiavellian manager and a series of dirty tricks. Kind of an insight amongst cannibal piranhas and food for thought regarding the illusion of Internet as a development tool for music artists. First time you hear about A$AP Rocky ? First time I hear a song from A$AP Rocky, I believe it was January, 2011, Been Around The World. To be honest, I don’t remember what I thought about it back then at all. Today I think it’s a good tune but at that time I didn’t especially dig it. It came to me as a guy named Eastsidestevie had posted it on his blog Realniggatumblr. Loading video That Tumblr is a true monument of Internet-Rap history. This guy used to scan his old Rap magazines, like XXL and more, brightening it up with stories you couldn’t read anywhere else. This concept was already really dope, but in addition to that, he had a great taste, made no compromise and had a strong sense of humor… It was thrilling, funny, harsh… Now the blog has been deleted and I hope that someone comes out someday saying he printed it all, as I believe it’s one of the best rap blog ever, if not THE best. 4 months later, between some Max B & Cam’Ron’s stories, some rare Prodigy’s freestyles and vintage footages of Puff Daddy, EastSideStevie brings out a new A$AP Rocky joint: Purple Swag. It sounds like an MP3 rip, the song being uploaded on YouTube, with the guy’s picture as scenery. Today everyone knows it… But at that time, hearing this out of nowhere, I was kind of stucked. Maybe it’d be good to re-establish the context: right now, in 2013, 90% of weak rappers with a lack of personality look after those stuff and try to do that kind of music. Yet back then it wasn’t « cool » again to rap as they do in Houston… and Houston was honestly kind of lifeless. People hadn’t heard neither of Lex Luger yet, nor those stuff that were going to be everywhere for the next 2 years, so running into Purple Swag was like being 2 years in the future of rap music… even though this track could totally be an unreleased from 2005 or 2006… So it motivated me to dig into A$AP Rocky… I see he has nothing on datpiff, nothing on livemixtapes, in short he’s a no name. So I look into the hidden depths of the Internet… I eventually find some verses of him here and there and even a video. I rip the whole thing and make a little compilation out of it. For the record, I didn’t know how to rip audio from YouTube… and the one who helped me is « a_nos_mousse »… who’d be known as Soufien 3000 a few weeks later… I ended up making a cover with Paint, uploading the compilation on the Internet and putting it on my blog. So when is this compilation getting out of control ? Once I put it online, the compilation spreads a bit… But it gets wider when Andrew Noz posts it on his Tumblr. He actually had run into Purple Swag on YouTube too, did the same thing I did, except he came across my compilation. At that time, it’s not that it gets « out of control » – as it doesn’t spread that much yet – something like 3 or 4 000 downloads, maybe less… But we’re now 2 or 3 talking about A$AP Rocky on the web, including Noz, a journalist who’s writing kind of everywhere… Enough to bring the attention of the artist himself, who probably begins to wonder « Damn, nobody knows me, I haven’t officially released anything yet but they’re talking about me on the web »… And that’s when EastSideStevie, with whom I had chatted sometimes in the past – sends me an email « to clarify the whole story around ASAP » he says. What is it saying ? Are you the only one he talks about it with? In this moment yeah, I believe I’m the only one he talks about it with. Roughly, he starts by telling me that Rocky is really touched by this compilation coming out of nowhere, punctuating every sentence like « no homo ». Even though there are some tracks he hates and he’d rather forget, like the one with Seth Narley. Then he tells me A$AP is a crew, him and Rocky kind of driving the whole thing. I remember he compared the both of ’em with Jim Jones & Cam’Ron in order to make me get it right. Then, still in that same email, April, 2011, he tells me Rocky’s currently working on his album. That he’s been signed (a management deal I guess) on the company which manages Big KRIT and which is also in charge of Curren$y’s booking. He goes on saying they hope to drop the mixtape by summer, coming along with many videos, and that so far the project is being produced by The Olympicks, Big KRIT and their in-house producer… He says it will come out via clothing brand Supreme, which was about to sponsor them. He eventually encloses a 11-track full A$AP Rocky project entitled « Mouth Full Of Gold », kind of a preview of what his 1st release would have been like. With some DJ Burn One, Olympicks & Ty Beats produced joints. Then begins a long series of emails in which he explains to me the kind of strategy he has in mind. A strategy consisting in what ? Consisting in making Rocky blow up thanks to blog support, but not just any random blogs. In big letters, their manager is trying to model them to fit in with 2Dopeboyz/Nahright… The Get High video with Ferg, to me it was about that… And him, Stevie, he’s not into that, I mean not at all. So he tries to connect some other rappers and producers to reach a different audience. He starts namedropping all the folks with whom he plans to collaborate; it sounds like an All Star Game of what was critically acclaimed by all the « specialised » rap blogs at that time: Young L, Droop-E, Clams Casino producing… Main Attrakionz as well. No more than a few days later, he manages to get Squadda B on a beat from a Norwegian, Cash Flow I think. This is the track which will become Underground King, a tribute to Pimp C in which he says he fucks the majors. I think it eventually came out on no project. May/Jun 2011, except for the compilation I uploaded and which is still not spreading that much, you can’t find any of the songs online… But already some majors look for signing him. Such as Atlantic Records… These guys already offer them a fine contract – which I don’t know no detail about – but they refuse it. They won’t go in as Rocky’s album would have been directed by Wiz Kalifah’s A&R (Rolling Paper period) who wants to make them a pop product with an « overdose of wild homo guitars ». Still aiming at seducing a certain audience, which I personally would consider as Realniggatumblr’s audience after all, Stevie tells me he wants to shoot a Purple Swag video… kind of a remake of Prodigy’s Mack 10 Handle. In the meantime, he sends me over two new Clams Casino produced tracks: Palace & Wassup. As I begin to have a few tracks at hand, he says I can spread some of ’em, even make another compilation if I want to. So I put one or two more on my blog… And the rest of it I ask some Internet guys to listen to, some folks from the Music Industry as well, so I know how they feel about it. Loading video So what do Internet and Industry people say ? I bring the attention of something like 10 guys around those tracks, French and Belgian people only… All of ’em are really into it at first. ‘Must say the guy blows in with productions from all the current freshmen, period; it was gold at that time. Amongst them are some « behind the scenes » guys like Amaury Feron or Guillaume Berg, convinced that he has a bright future. Guillaume even reaches out Stevie and starts getting along with them, working a bit with them… On organising a European tour in particular, to make them come to Paris. I think early July, 2011, while the Purple Swag video hadn’t dropped yet and nobody had heard about them except for 15 Parisians and 2 Belgians, it’s already decided that Main Attrakionz & A$AP Rocky would do a gig in Paris in October. So do they and you meet ’em for real this time ? Not really… Even though everything had been planned, or nearly planned, with such things as Young Jeezy opening in Scandinavia if I remember well, this tour would actually never be. Because a lot of things happened between this early July and October. Let me just go back, to Jun, 2011. First of all, Soufien enters the loop. One morning I receive a message from Stevie saying that I must listen to this beat from a French producer that Rocky will probably use… When I find out this French producer is… Soufien, whom I already knew, I’m laughing my ass off, as he hadn’t tell anyone. I think everybody knows how it happened, he sent over some beats on Facebook, etc, etc. As they didn’t have that much contact with Soufien anymore, that’s me who recovers Acid Drip for him and I send it over via Twitter. If I remember well, we didn’t have Get Lit at that time and we weren’t sure whether those tracks would be on the tape or not, so we kept our mouths shut. Then we meet SpaceGhostPurpp… The rest of Green Ova, etc… which leads the mixtape to be delayed again and again, ending up not looking at all like the original project (Mouth Full Of Gold). End of May/early Jun, the Purple Swag video is already shot and they start making a new one for each track of the tape. Their idea is to do like Lil B in a way, having a new video each week during summer. And then, I don’t know what happens, they give up the video. Stevie asks me to remove all the songs I put online (Wassup, Peso, Diamonds), to delete quite a few other stuff and not to communicate anymore. I understand that things are happening faster for them. They go back and shoot another video for Purple Swag… they launch it early July on Realniggatumblr, my blog and a couple of more such as Yayodancing. From now on, everybody knows what’s up, as they are « officially » out. First vid works very well but the one that will really be a hit is Peso. And as Deep Purple – the small compilation made of YouTube rips – is still the only Rocky project available out there, it’s being more and more downloaded, easily going over 100 000. So now the majors start to quiver I guess… I guess they do… As they were already in touch with labels before, plus the way things happened, I think their record deal with Sony was almost signed even before the new Purple Swag video came out. And that they just didn’t tell anyone. There were probably some details to be fixed, and the viral success those vids encountered probably helped in exaggerating some figures in the end… but to me it was already almost done before they went really « famous ». About that, the so-called $3-million deal is not exactly the one that has been given to the general public, do you have some details ? No I don’t. What I know, or what I believe I know, is that it was about 1,5M$ for A$AP Rocky as a solo artist, and 1,5M$ for A$AP Mob. Without even knowing what it exactly means. But I really don’t think they currently have 3M$ in their wallet…. Once again I don’t know the details as I never had to see this contract, but regarding this deal so many talked about… I’m not convinced that’s the best idea they had. If their success is indeed « viral », which everything seems to demonstrate – hold by social networks, Tumblr, YouTube, etc. Roughly if they were as supported as indie artists as they seemed to be… It meant they already had a large audience and so they didn’t need that deal. By remaining independent, they would have got 100% of everything their music generates, from MP3 sales to YouTube ads, live tours or clothing brands in their case… When you have millions of views, in less than a month, on several of your videos… If you’re smart and if you’re able to handle it, a lot more money can go INTO YOUR POCKET rather than signing such a deal… Furthermore… your masters still belong to you. Now I’d bet everything you want that the music those guys are dropping, legally doesn’t belong to them no more. Go ask Mac Miller or Macklemore what kind of money comes into their pocket at the end of the year. I’m 300% sure it’s ten times what the whole A$AP Mob crew is making all together. And they remain owners of their masters. I think what made them sign is the promise of a relative « artistic freedom », roughly your albums will be just as you want it to be… Yeah, just the same as being indie right ?! We get to this theory according which ain’t no such thing as a spontaneous boom in this new worldwide musical industry driven by the Internet, is that it ? I personally hardly believe in some spontaneous boom happening on the web, yeah. Some folks – with just a video on YouTube, without having approached anyone first, without having a manager, etc… who’d sign a contract for several millions with a major label 5 weeks afterward, I believe that’s part of the stories that feed into marketing, also allowing musical journalists enabled to speak a word about music to have something to say. But that’s not exactly what I wanted to highlight here. Thing is, for the US market, when you have a thrilled audience already existing, I doubt signing with a major is the best option. I believe Macklemore is now a role model in this field. A$AP Rocky had everything under control so he could handle his career the same way, I’m sure he would have sold the same amount of albums and would have make more money… But that’s true they couldn’t have fronted like « Yo, we got a $3-million deal »… When it’s actually « Yo, I’m paying that percentage of what I earn to Mr. so-and so and my masters don’t belong to me no more » By the way the guy who built that A$AP Rocky buzz – Stevie/Yams – has now been put aside, hasn’t he ? Stevie became A$AP Yams indeed. He’s credited on both the album and mixtape as executive producer, so I think he’s still involved in the artistic choices. I guess he will also on the next A$AP Ferg album to be released. I don’t know if he plays another role but this one today. He’s still with them, touring and shit. But for a few months he seems to be busier with some West Coast rappers. He manages them, advises them and helps them; thanks to the connections he developed during the A$AP Mob adventures. Like Joey Fatts for instance. But I don’t know more precisely. Nowadays the few interactions I got with him go through a Facebook group we have, involving a bunch of guys who’ve been part of this story or close enough for the last 2/3 years. From your point of view – as an industry insider – what is your feeling on this ? Bitterness ? Amusement ? Proud ? The three combined/none of that ? No bitterness, I got no reason to feel this way. It was amusing on many aspects for sure. Especially when people here in France said I had « discovered » A$AP Rocky, based on some newspaper articles and these kinds of stupid stuff, when it was absolutely not true. Me being part of the equation or not wouldn’t change anything to the story I think. I used to receive dozens of emails as people thought I was their manager or something… It was funny. In addition, the fact that I was there allowed me to meet people and connect. And this is always cool. Do you believe that « Influential blogs » in rap music are necessarily manipulated by Stevielike guys? Sometimes it’s not completely conscious or as well thought out as Stevie did, so I don’t know if we can talk about manipulation, but there are definitely some artists that are being helped by some blogs. It can be explained by friendliness. As artists eventually get closer with bloggers/journalists for instance. There is this one blog of a skating clothing brand, talking a lot about rap music; this is exactly what I’m saying… Rappers they highlight always have a small success thanks to their support… And after chatting here and there, I realised that it’s just a huge friendliness network. Neither the rappers nor the bloggers are completely aware of it. And there’s also some quite vicious stuff. Here’s a funny one. I’m part of a Facebook group gathering almost all the American bloggers, something like 10 rappers and a bunch of producers… One day we asked ourselves, if we all started to praise somebody at the same time on our different websites, wrapping up the whole thing well, like taking a beat from that well-known producer, a featuring with this hot cat and shit… Would we succeed in making believe he’s dope ? We took someone from the group who didn’t know how to rap, someone ghostwrited his lyrics and we made him rap on some beat from a producer everyone would know… One after the other, every blogger from the group wrote some stuff to explain why it was dope… It worked. But even more than everything we could have imagined. As this artist went highly praised by all the « tastemaker » blogs, for real. We found him in some year-end blog lists from bone-headed hipsters websites nearly interested in rap, some articles saying it was revolutionary, including some big players like Complex, Fader, Spin, Pitchfork… And now… well this artist has a career. Not amongst the rap audience, but amongst kind of retarded hipsters who love to believe that they listen to rap music, it’s a hit. This artist is touring now, hanging around with stars and shit… I think I won’t reveal his identity for now, but someday someone will, for sure. Anyway, I don’t know if it’s a proof that these kinds of practices do exist, but it’s a proof it definitely works. More on a RNT model, there are the Baller’s Eve guys, responsible for launching Yelawof, Trinidad James and a few other careers. The boss of this radio/blog seems to hang out and find new talents pretty much everywhere, then manages them a bit undercover before pretending he discovers them when posting on his blog. It’s been really nice of you to take some time and energy to tell us the hidden agenda of this story, one last word to add ? Only that as far as I’m concerned, I don’t write articles on « the next big thing » no more, or new talents, in fact I don’t do really fresh news topics… Not to fall into that kind of stuff, even without noticing. Because I don’t want to hand on no plates to people no more. I’ve always been writing what I think, but when you start doing this too much, you become this snooper website, running after the last news and the next thing to blow up… maybe for lack of a real high quality content.

I modified this recipe so it was clams casino instead of stuffed clams. The only thing I did different was not take the clams out to chop them up. I put the mixture directly on top of the clams in the shell and baked it. I also used littleneck clams (it was all the store had). They came out very good. For the clams: Add the clams to a large pot or large saute pan with a lid. Add 1/2 cup water and cover the pan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat and steam until the clams open, 6 to 10 minutes. When hot, add 2 teaspoons the garlic, white wine, thyme sprigs and the clams. Place the lid on the pan, increase the heat to medium-high and cook the clams until they all open, 3 to 4 minutes. Using tongs or a slotted spoon, transfer the clams to a bowl to cool. Strain the broth through a fine mesh sieve and set aside. Preheat the oven to broil. How to Make Clams Casino. This recipe for Clams Casino couldn’t be simpler to make. First, I rendered some bacon in a pan then removed before it became totally crispy. While the bacon is cooking, wash the clams and arrange on a baking sheet. Roast the clams in the oven until they all open discarding any unopened clams. Make-ahead clams casino: The clams can be thawed and topped ahead of time, refrigerated, and broiled when guests arrive. Using smaller clams: You can use cherry stone or little neck clams instead of top necks, just use twice as many, skip cutting the clam in half, and discard half the shells. Clams casino is simply the best clam recipe ever. Whenever bacon and butter appear in the same recipe, you know you’re in for a treat! Not only is clams casino an easy recipe to prepare, it can be made ahead of time and popped into the broiler whenever you’re ready. Arrange the clams in the reserved shells on the baking sheet. Spoon the vegetable mixture atop the clams, dividing equally and mounding slightly. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of Parmesan. Clams casino are an easy appetizer using fresh clams topped with garlic, breadcrumbs, chives, bacon and butter. Summers on the Vineyard are all about fresh seafood. Once we board the ferry, we are craving fresh lobster rolls (our favorite is from the Black Dog Tavern), grilled swordfish and, of course, dad’s clams. Clams casino should be a great dish—what could be bad about clams, bacon, butter, and bread crumbs? But all too often, it's executed all wrong. Not this time. Meet the make-ahead, no-shuck, easy-as-pie clams casino recipe that just happens to taste better than most others out there. Ladle the pan sauce onto the clams. Garnish with the reserved bacon and more fresh chopped parsley. Sprinkle on the breadcrumb mixture. Serve with a side of lemon wedges.
