My first filly’s playground capers sparked an eternal flicker
I tended her skinned surfaces with pink butterfly stickers
While hard candies coaxed sweet secrets I had savored
Later, her friendship frayed fickle and my wishes turned bitter
Petty plots that my pretty replaced me with bad boys and liquor

Compared to she and the prepubescent ewes subsequent
Your delicious mulled miseries taste entirely different
Into womanhood your larval-self arrived quite ignorant
How princes devolve into husbands who belch their indifference
Of bosses and younger beauties to whom you’ll owe deference
Had you been mine, you’d have known the world was treacherous

I followed how you trudged through days like a little lost stray
Poor lamb, sitcoms promised a gaggle of friends, didn’t they?
Blood sisters at lady-lunches of complaints and champagne
I am of same make, though feinting these feminine cliches
Yet easily I spilled you with shared sips of shimmering rosè

Ensnared you are by cajoling sympathetic comments
While I polish and paint your nails, a ritual nonsense
The clippings saved and weighed for dastardly ingredients
Harvested snips and bits of soul craft a sacred insurance
I’ve perfected a poppet; pray we remain the best of friends

I wrote this horror piece several years ago. The title and speaker are inspired by Judi Dench's character in Notes On A Scandal. I never knew what to do with it or if the alliteration was a catastrophe.

Secondly, we have To Walk Invisible, The BBC's 2016 feature-length period drama following the lives of the Bronte sisters. Here is the synopsis:
